March 6, 2008 - This week marked a major milestone in the overall political push for Health Information Exchange (HIE) with a white paper released by the Joint Commission on the need for a single, national infrastructure for sharing data between providers. The paper listed 22 principles to guide the development of a standardized national system for sharing data amongst providers. The statements made by the joint commission will certainly broaden the audience beyond information technology circles.
